We have published
the findings of 20 specialists from the United
States, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, South Africa and Spain on
the subject of bird mortality due to collision and electrocution on
electricity lines in a book coordinated by Dr. Miguel Ferrer, a raptor expert and Director of the Biological Station in the marshland area
of Doñana in Spain.
Together with the Dutch
biologist Guyonne Janss.
Besides providing
general information on the problem in the United States (R.N. Lehman,
A.R. Ansell, M.G. Garret, A.D. Miller and R.R. Ollendorff), Europe (K. Bevanger;
G. Janss, M. Ferrer) and
South Africa (C.S. van Rooyen y J. Ledger), the
research findings included in this 250-page book deal with very specific
cases concerning Spain
(J.A. Alonso, J.C. Alonso, V. Navazo,
A. Lazo and J. Roig);
ospreys in wetlands on the coast of Mexico
(A. Castellanos, A.Ortega-Rubio and C.Arguelles-Mendez)
and swans on the Swedish coast
(S. Mathiasson). It
is, therefore, a very interesting book for all those
experiencing problems with electricity lines.
